Recycling, Re-Purpose, Eco-friendly and Going Green by Linda Walsh

There is a LOT of buzz these days about recycling crafts, re-purposed crafts, eco-friendly crafts and going green crafts. They are all a little different, but basically have one theme in common which is "saving the planet."

Now you might wonder how crafting can save the planet. Well, it all involves using materials that can be recycled. Or, creating something entirely new out of an old item. In other works changing the purpose of the old item into another item with another purpose.

Or it could mean using materials that will disintegrate over time say - in a landfill. Or, adapting your lifestyle and crafting to do less damage to the planet. Like conserving energy while crafting by using energy efficient light bulbs, energy efficient electronics, etc.

Personally, I've been recycling my clothes and my families clothes for decades. Whether I re-use my brothers old socks with holes in them to create socks for some of my dolls or create knit hats for my Santa's I'm recycling. Or, if I re-use my grandchildren's old baby clothes for some of my cloth and wood dolls I'm recycling.

I even go several steps further and conserve fabric that I buy for my doll creations by cutting up old sweaters and clothes I or members of my family may have worn that are not being given to Goodwill and re-purpose them into new dolls or crafts like quilts. You'd be surprised how quickly you can create fabric stashes for use with dolls, quilts, mixed media, etc.

So, I thought I'd provide links to a few of the crafters that I am aware of from my "The Best FREE Craft Articles Blog" who have written FREE articles on this subject and who are really good at recycling crafts or creating re-purposed crafts.
