I just love it.

In this day and age so many people give gift cards as gifts for holidays and birthdays. They are convenient and you do not have to worry if the gift recipient will like their gift. I resisted gift cards for along time, they just seemed so impersonal to me but I have jumped on board and now purchase gift cards for certain people that I find difficult to buy for. To make the gift card seem a little more personal, I like to create a holder for them rather than using the ones that the store gives you for free.
The above picture is a gift card holder I made. I forgot to take a picture with the flap closed from the front so the top portion would actually be closed. These are so quick and easy to make!

Cut a piece of card stock or decorative paper to 4½" x 6". Score a ¼" in on each of the 6" sides. Turn a 1/4 turn and score at 2¼" and 4 3/4". Cut off the 2 pieces of excess as shown in the picture.

Use your circle punch as shown to cut a notch out of the bottom.

Add adhesive to the ¼" pieces on each side. Fold the bottom upward, so it looks like the picture above. (I stuck a piece of paper inside you could see it better.)

Use a pair of decorative scissors or an edge punch to scallop the top edge. Be sure to hold your scissors the correct way so the scallops go downward from the gift card holder. I just hold the scissors like I am going to cut the holder and make sure the scallop is going the right way before actually cutting through the cardstock. You can pick up a pair of these scissors at Michael's for about $1.00.

Decorate your holder however you would like. I stamped "a gift for you" on the front, and framed it with a cardboard cutout I found at Target for like $4 for a bag of all different shapes. Before attaching the "frame" I added tiny brads to it (the holes were already there).

For the back I punched a circle out of cardstock and then punched two tiny holes in the circle. Then I used my stylus to score tiny marks around the outside edge of the circle to give it some interest, threaded a piece of fiber through the holes and tied in a knot. I attached the top portion of the button to the holder with permanent adhesive and attached a small piece of Velcro to the bottom portion of the button so the holder could be opened and closed.
There you have it, a way to make a gift card more personal. You could also stick a few business cards in it and use it as a business card holder.
