After your frame is painted/stained/sanded, whichever method you prefer, here’s how to attach the stitching to the frame:
INSTURCTIONS FOR ATTACHING STITCHERIES TO FRAMES:
You will want to make sure your stitchery is dry and as flat as you can get it. I usually iron it right before attaching it to the frame. I also use batting behind all my stitcheries BEFORE stitching, just for added bulk to help with attaching. Plus the batting hides the stitches in the front. I usually add another piece of muslin behind the stitchery against the batting, so you won’t see any stitches. However, if you are adding a backing (which I always do for stability) this step is not necessary. I use a think piece of wood OR cardboard will even work good. You will first attach the fabric/batting to the back of the frame, stitching showing out the front, obviously. You will secure the fabric/batting with a staple gun, pulling pretty tight, but not to where it’s going to distort your stitched picture. Once it’s stapled all the way around you will add your backing, either cardboard or lightweight wood piece. Cut to fit the back. I then use nails. We have a nail gun, so that’s what we use. Making sure the nails are not too long, sticking out the front of, course. I put them in at a slight angle. All the way around. Enough to hold and stabilize the wood. You can add your picture hanger at this point, centered in the middle. You might want to measure this part, not just eyeball it, or the stitchery will hang crooked. I then like to sign all my stitcheries on the back.
